Caption: Mayor, staff volunteer about town: Spokane Mayor David Condon, left, city administrator Theresa Sanders and Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant and Community Kitchen volunteer Bob Hedlund break out in laughter as they package coleslaw at the restaurant at 1620 N. Monroe St. in Spokane on Tuesday. The mayor and members of his cabinet spent the day volunteering around town, including building a fence and shed in the backyard of YouthBuild house. Condon, along with 1,700 mayors around the nation, is participating in National Volunteer Month. He is promoting Spokane Gives Week ( spokanegives.org) April 12-19 to encourage volunteerism. “I want Spokane to be the most compassionate city in America,” he said.
