News For An Empire

Description

news for an empire by Ralph E. Dyar was published in January 1952. This book - researched and written by a veteran Spokane newspaper man, who was also a published playwright, is about The Spokesman-Review and the field it serves. We recently discovered unopened boxes with copies of this historical book that we are making available to the public.

For those history buffs who have purchased our recent map offering 1884 Historic Map of Spokane – you may want this book as a companion piece as it contains a portion of the framed map.

Quote from The Boston Daily Globe:

news for an empire is three books in one – an easily read history of an exciting era, the record of the growing years of a big city newspaper and a good story.”

“This work is of such historical importance it should be required reading in our high schools so that the growing generation could grasp its true impact on the development of the Inland Empire.” – George W. Schwenger, manager , Metropolitan Life Insurance company, Spokane.

Readers comments included:

“It was very important that this story be told now before it becomes dim through loss of records and memory.” and  “A piece of work that must be greatly appreciated by the entire Northwest.”
